WINDHAM, Connecticut — Family members, friends, and residents across the Mansfield community are mourning the heartbreaking loss of 30-year-old Devan Nolet, who died following a devastating motorcycle crash Friday evening on Route 32 in Windham.
According to Connecticut State Police, the collision occurred at approximately 5:50 p.m. in front of Apollo Pizza along the busy roadway. Troopers from Troop K, along with Windham EMS personnel, responded to reports of a serious crash involving a motorcycle and a sport utility vehicle.
Preliminary findings from investigators indicate that an 83-year-old driver, identified as Pedro Johnson of North Windham, was operating a Ford Explorer northbound on Route 32 and attempting to make a left turn into a commercial driveway. At the same time, Devan Nolet was traveling southbound on a Suzuki GSX-R750 motorcycle when the SUV entered the motorcycle’s path.
Authorities say the motorcycle collided with the right front portion of the Ford Explorer. The force of the impact ejected Nolet from the motorcycle, causing him to strike a nearby utility pole. Following the collision, the Ford Explorer reportedly continued forward and struck the rear of a parked vehicle.
Emergency responders rushed Nolet to Windham Hospital suffering from life-threatening injuries. Despite extensive efforts by medical personnel, he later succumbed to those injuries.
Officials confirmed that no other individuals involved in the crash sustained serious injuries. State police continue to investigate the collision and have not announced whether any charges are expected as investigators review roadway evidence, witness statements, and the sequence of events leading up to the impact.
