Dan Canniff, 28, Motorcycle Crash, El Cajon Boulevard and 56th Street Intersection in San Diego: Family Mourns

San Diego, California — The motorcycle community and countless followers online are mourning the heartbreaking loss of 28-year-old Dan Canniff, widely known on social media as “2DownDan,” after he was killed Friday afternoon in a tragic crash in San Diego’s El Cerrito neighborhood.

According to the San Diego Police Department, the fatal collision occurred around 12:56 p.m. near the intersection of El Cajon Boulevard and 56th Street. Investigators said a 22-year-old woman driving a 2019 Toyota sedan was traveling westbound on El Cajon Boulevard and attempting to make a left turn onto 56th Street while proceeding through a green traffic signal.

At the same time, Dan Canniff was riding eastbound on El Cajon Boulevard on his Kawasaki Ninja 500 motorcycle, also with a green light, when the motorcycle collided with the front passenger side of the Toyota. The impact left the scene devastated and drew an immediate emergency response.

First responders rushed Canniff to a local hospital, where medical teams fought to save his life. Despite those efforts, authorities confirmed that he later died from the injuries he sustained in the crash. The driver of the Toyota was also transported to a hospital and treated for minor injuries.

Police stated that alcohol is not believed to have played a role in the collision. The San Diego Police Department Traffic Division continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.

For many people, Dan Canniff was more than a motorcyclist or online personality. Known to followers as “2DownDan,” he built a community through his passion for riding and the content he shared across social media. Friends, supporters, and fellow riders are now grieving the sudden loss of someone whose enthusiasm and love for motorcycles connected him to thousands of people both online and in real life.

Tributes and messages of sorrow have continued to spread across social platforms as those who knew him personally — and many who only knew him through his videos and presence online — reflect on the impact he made. His death has left an emotional void in the riding community, where many are struggling to come to terms with how quickly a life filled with passion and energy could be lost.

As the investigation continues, loved ones are holding tightly to memories of Dan and the joy he brought to others through his personality, his creativity, and his love for life on two wheels. Though his life ended far too soon, many hope he will be remembered not for the tragedy itself, but for the spirit, connection, and inspiration he shared with so many people.
